Advanced Language Customization

Providing a voting experience in multiple languages can be important if your organization has members from different parts of the world or has voters whose first language is not English. Multiple languages help make the democratic process more accessible and fair for all eligible voters!

Details Page Setup

Under Organization Details,  select a "Primary Language" to set the language the ballot will show voters for buttons and instructions.

Voters can change their language while they are casting their ballot to view instructions and buttons in their preferred language. Default ElectionBuddy Ballot text is automatically translated, but customized text is not.

Select Advanced Language Customization to add additional languages and translate customized text.

Choose languages from the “Select Languages” dropdown list, or type in the box to search for a language.

Translate customized text on the Ballot Page and Notice Page using the “Edit Translations” buttons to have voters view questions, choices, notice and confirmation text in their preferred language.

Ballot Page Setup

Select “Edit Translations” at the bottom of the page to translate the Ballot into selected languages.

Translated text will appear on the ballot along with default instructions and buttons text, all in the voter's preferred language.

Using the “Filter language” box, type or select the language you are working on for easier viewing and translation entry.

Select “Edit Languages” to add or remove languages from the vote.

Under Vote Details, translate the Vote Title and Organization.

Selecting “Edit” beside any primary text allows editing.

Under Question Details, translate text including the Question Title, Additional Instructions, and Information.  The information required to translate is based on the selected Ballot Question Settings.

Under Choice Details, translate the Answer Titles (for example, Candidate names) and any of the Candidate Profiles.  Profile text will show beneath “Answer Information”.

Notice Page Setup

Enable Advanced Notice Customization to translate Notices into the voters' preferred languages. When Advanced Notice Customization is enabled, you will also be able to edit the Reminder text into languages and send it to voters based on their preferred language.

From the bottom of the page, select “Edit Translations” to enter the Notice translation text.

Under Notices Details, enter the text for each language selected.  {{variables}} in the notices must remain in English and unchanged.

After the translations have been entered, use the "Preview" menu to select languages and review the notice for accuracy.

Voters Page

On the Voters Page, enter each voter’s “Preferred Language” in the Voter List. This determines which language the Notice and Ballot defaults to for each voter.

Languages can be typed in the local or English equivalent. Example: Español or Spanish.
